Expert Advice – Our Community’s Professional Blog Roll
We have a diverse and knowledgeable community at Technology in Education, so we decided to tap them for some resources recently on our Facebook page. We asked if they wrote blogs about education or therapy and they delivered some amazing sites to visit. Are we missing your blog? Leave a comment so we can check it out!

I am happy to speak with you about speech-language services, consulting, product testing, freelance work/publishing opportunities, online speech therapy opportunities or other possibilities that we can arrange. Brightsong, LLC, Milestones and Benchmarks
About: “Brightsong, LLC provides pediatric therapy and education services for children, from birth to age 18, and their families in the Greater Memphis area. Our programs and pediatric professionals create opportunities to learn and grow in a family-centered environment. Our multidisciplinary team includes speech-language pathologists, physical and occupational therapists, a registered nurse, child development specialists and special education teachers.”
About: “I created this blog so that I can share what I do at my dream job with my colleagues, friends, and family as well as other families who have children and are looking for advice or professionals in the SLP community. I also created it so that I can take the journalist, computer programmer, linguist, engineer, and child in me to the field of speech-language pathology – do all of my dream jobs at once. Feel free to come here to share in my joy, for advice, or for the resources I share. It is called “Consonantly Speaking” because as speech-language pathologists we are constantly speaking, whether in therapy or at home, and we are teaching about/using consonants.”
(Consonantly Speaking also offered up a list for us to include)
“For SLP therapy blogs, there are some great posts with up to 100 SLP blogs listed:
-ASHAsphere’s Best Speech-Language Pathologist Blogs from ‘A to Z’
-100 Best Websites for Speech Pathologists
Sandi Dennis, Teacher Technotopia
About: “This blog is for teachers, students, parents, and friends who want to learn interesting tips about technology. I try to share what interests me… some of it is basic, but who has time to learn everything on their own? I hope it helps you become more technical in some way! Remember, computers are our friends…..”
Sarah DeBellis, On Sarah’s iPad
About: “I’m the mother of 6 wonderful children (I kid you not) and most of my life is taken up with them. In my past life I was a Special Education Teacher, and for the last few years of my career I was a Statewide Advisor for Assistive Technology. Part of my role was to review and evaluate new technology, including both hardware and software, in terms of how it supports the learner and how it fits in with the curriculum. These days I am still being asked for advice on which Apps and programs would be good for children, so it seemed a blog on the subject might be a good thing.”
Lindsey Fuller, Tales of a 6th Grade Classroom
About: “The story of a classroom with a mission – to learn, no matter what stands in our way. Join us as we use technology to transform our classroom into a place of creation, innovation, and collaboration.”
Melanie Broxterman, Boxterman’s Bugle: Teaching With Technology
About: “I am an intervention specialist for students with multiple disabilities (Grades K-2). Most of my day is spent teaching within the special education classroom, but I also assist students who attend classes with their peers. In the past 13 years of teaching, I have worked with students of ALL abilities. I have a degree in general and special education. Over the past 10 years, I have taken numerous graduate level classes in assistive technology and attended both national and local conferences on special education and technology. I am excited to be a part of the graduate program in Educational Technology through Michigan State University.”
Thanks to you all for reaching out to the community and offering your expertise!

My blog is for parents and teachers. My expertise is in working with people with reading disabilities. I recently helped my nephew (22 and autistic) publish his first book, The Magic Quest. You can read all about the process on my blog. I also write about education, my grandson, iPad apps, and Irish blessing quotes (I think I get more visits for those than anything else). I recently added virtual tutoring to my services. When you sign up for my newsletter, The Spark, you will receive a free eBook about apps for education.
