Tapikeo Overview

Tapikeo - an app that delivers a lot at a very affordable price

Price and Download Info at the bottom of the review

Tapikeo is an app that teaches children key vocabulary concepts in a visual manner. While the free iPhone version is sufficient, the HD version for iPad allow for up to 16 images per page. There are a multitude of boards that are available for download on the tapikeo website ranging from food to transportation to colors – and more!
Customizations within the app are easy. Users can import their own images and record their own sound, as well as have the word typed on the bottom of the image.
Tapikeo can also be used as a storyboard to tell a story using pictures. It can also be used for social skills stories.

Issues

  • There weren’t any issues with downloading the app, or with the extra packs.

Wishlist

  • it’s clear that this was developed in Europe, as some of the images for transportation vehicles do not look like some of the vehicles used in the US. However, it’s an easy fix to add a picture that is relevant to the user, as well as recording ones own voice.
  • I would love to see some method of tracking correct responses when using the boards for teaching vocabulary.

Overall Impression

Tapikeo is an app that delivers a lot at a very affordable price. for those that are interested in an app thats easy to use and customize, tapikeo offers this functionality. This is a perfect app to teach receptive and expressive vocabulary, as well as to create social stories for children they require social scripts. having a built in camera when using tapikeo on the iPad is helpful for creating boards in the moment. this could also be used as an early communication device. Overall, I was impressed with the ease of use, as well as the ease of customizations. Plus, the price tag for iPhone is worth the small investment for first time users.
